Houses built with Straw Bales

A better insulated home means less greenhouse gases and pollution in our atmosphere. These plans are presented as a public service by the 101 Info Online Drafting School.

Our atmosphere isn't going to get any cleaner unless we cut back on the use of fuels that cause greenhouse gases. In the search for a more energy efficient home, we at Drafting Consultants have been working on a prototype house. This homes exterior is comprised solely of common Straw bales. Once these are enclosed in whole house wrap of cement, are some of the most energy efficient anywhere next to the earthen home.

We are offering the plans we developed to the public free of charge. The plans are drawn on "D" size architectural format (24" x 36") PDF files.

Advantages to the Straw Bale Home:

  • High Resistivity Factor (R-40 to 50)
  • Saves our precious timberland from the Lumberjack. Only 20% Lumber construction.
  • Last years and years. Once dried and enclosed in stucco can last for 100+ years
  • Low cost construction. Can cost less than about 75% the price tag of a conventional wood frame house!

Please note: Upon downloading these plans you must realize that these are prototype drawings and are not warrentied by me in any way, shape, form, or fashion.

These Plans are designed to use existing construction practices and can be completed by any licensed contractor or builder. Special electrical considerations are addressed on the plans and are to be adjusted to fit your local building codes by your contractor.

Once you have downloaded your plans, you may make as many copies as you wish, but these they are not to be resold or altered in any shape, form, or fashion without written consent of Tim Davis .
